Tignanello 2001 — Marchesi Antinori, Tuscany, Italy
Sangiovese 85% · Cabernet Sauvignon 10% · Cabernet Franc 5%
One of the most iconic wines of Italy, Tignanello 2001 is a classic from a historic vintage. Produced from the original Super Tuscan vineyard at Tenuta Tignanello, nestled in the hills between Florence and Siena, this wine shows power, precision and elegance in perfect harmony.
Aroma
Refined and complex bouquet of ripe cherry, blackcurrant, dried herbs, cedar, leather and tobacco. Subtle notes of balsamic, vanilla and sweet spice from oak aging lift the nose.
Palate
Medium to full-bodied with layers of dark fruit, earth, and spice. Tannins are polished and integrated, giving structure without heaviness. Long finish with lingering notes of graphite, dried flowers and a touch of bittersweet cocoa.
Aging & Expression
Aged in French and Hungarian oak for 14–16 months, then further matured in bottle. Now over two decades old, the 2001 shows beautiful tertiary development, yet remains vibrant.
Significance
Tignanello rewrote the rules of Chianti in the 1970s. The 2001 vintage reflects both tradition and innovation, making it a treasure for collectors and a highlight for any serious wine lover’s table.
