100% Monastrell, Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2022, Jumilla DO, Spain
Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2022 is a remarkable expression of Monastrell, sourced from the historic La Solana vineyard in Jumilla. Planted in 1941 on sandy soils resistant to phylloxera, these ungrafted vines yield a wine that embodies the essence of its terroir. The 2022 vintage, shaped by a warm and dry climate, resulted in a wine of exceptional elegance and complexity.
Vinification:
The grapes were carefully destemmed without crushing and fermented with native yeasts in small underground vats. Fermentation lasted 12 days at controlled temperatures, followed by vertical pressing. Malolactic fermentation occurred in new 500-liter French oak barrels, where the wine aged for 22 months, developing depth and finesse.
