Solaia 2001 — Antinori, Tuscany, Italy
Cabernet Sauvignon 75% · Sangiovese 20% · Cabernet Franc 5%
A legendary vintage of Antinori’s flagship Super Tuscan, crafted only in the best years from the sun-drenched hillside vineyard of Tenuta Tignanello in the Chianti Classico heartland. The 2001 vintage delivered ideal conditions, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth, balance and aging potential.
Aroma
Opens with deep and expressive notes of black cherry, cassis, violets and dried rose petals, layered with hints of espresso, cedarwood, liquorice and dark chocolate. As it evolves in the glass, touches of toffee, tobacco leaf and mineral graphite emerge.
Palate
Full-bodied and rich, showing great concentration of ripe black fruits, spice and savoury undertones. Structured yet elegant, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish. The oak is beautifully integrated, adding polish and depth without overshadowing the fruit.
Aging & Structure
Aged 18 months in new French oak barrels, this wine has matured gracefully. Now over 20 years old, it is drinking beautifully with mature complexity, but still has plenty of life ahead — peak window: now through 2030+.
